Londyn Hendon - RAF Museum

Londyńskie muzeum RAFu jest "tym" muzeum lotniczym jeśli chodzi o południową Anglię (bo w północnej jest Duxford). Składają się na nie trzy wielkie budynki (z czego jeden kilkuczęściowy) z kilkoma wystawami tematycznymi i mnóstwem samolotów.

Do obejrzenia
Grahame-White Factory - ekspozycja w budynku pierwszej brytyjskiej fabryki samolotów, prezentująca najstarsze maszyny latające. Otwarta tylko kilka godzin dziennie, więc warto tak wycelować, żeby zdążyć ją zwiedzić.
Do obejrzenia samoloty sprzed pierwszej wojny światowej i z jej okresu, między innymi sporo Sopwithów (3/2 Strutter, Pup, Tabloid, Triplane), Vickers Vimy i inne. Niektóre oryginalne i odrestaurowane, inne - repliki.

Milestones of Flight - kolekcja "ważnych historycznie" samolotów i wystawa prezentująca najważniejsze wydarzenia w historii lotnictwa. Między innymi Sopwith Camel, Mustang, Tempest, Mosquito, odrzutowy Messer Me-262, Harrier, Eurofighter Typhoon.

Bomber Hall - bombowce, głównie z czasów drugiej wojny.

Historic Hangars - wszystko, co nie trafiło gdzie indziej :) W szczególności - Thunderbolt, Typhoon, Stranraer, Meteor. Tutaj też bardzo bogaty sklep z modelami i tradycyjnymi giftami, a także plac "lotniczych" zabaw dla dzieci, mniej jednak nastawiony na dydaktykę, niż ten w IWM Duxford - i dla młodszego narybku raczej.

Battle of Britain - ekspozycje, makiety i samoloty związane z Bitwą o Anglię, w tym scenki rodzajowe z bombardowanego kraju w skali 1:1. Tutaj unikat - Boulton Paul Defiant, a także Gloster Gladiator, Stukas czy Heinkel He-111.

Jak trafić do muzeum RAFu?
Hendon mieści się w obrębie Greater London, można tu spokojnie dotrzeć metrem - stacja Colindale (to już w "strefie nadziemnej" metra). Potem polecam mniej więcej kilometrowy (10 minut) spacer na północny wschód chodnikiem wzdłuż drogi, zgodnie z mapką. Po drodze można trafić na sklep z polską żywnością ;), potem mijamy rondo, apartamentowce, i w zasadzie już. Można też na upartego jechać autobusem, ale tego nie próbowaliśmy.
